Denny artist Ivor Hart makes his mark in first solo exhibition
Don’t miss out on Ivor Hart’s first solo exhibition, which comes to an end later this month.
The Denny-based artist was head of Alloa Academy’s art department and has taught at Falkirk High School and, more recently, at the Northfield unit at Denny High.
Whilst the retired teacher has exhibited his work before, the current showing in Falkirk Town Hall is extra-special - it is the first ever exhibit displaying exclusively his work.
When s1denny caught up with the father of two, he was at his studio in Winchester Avenue. He told us a bit about his exhibition: “I’ve put up 15 paintings and they’re all acrylic done on canvas. Rather than landscape and portrait, they’re more personal compositions and there’s an emphasis on colour.
“The kinds of things that might influence me are mythology and historical things but with a contemporary edge.
“There’s not really a message. In film, you get a kind of narrative but you don’t have to have that in painting. The best kinds of paintings are enigmatic - let people decide for themselves what they’re about.”
Later in the year, Ivor will be joining other Denny artists Helen Runciman and Bob Montgomery to take part in the Forth Valley Open Studios.
Ivor Hart’s solo exhibition is on until Wednesday, February 29 and can be viewed from 10am- 4pm Monday to Friday and on evenings when the town hall is open.
